Mathis spent eight seasons in Spain and he is a regular with Spain. Just two months before the World Cup, he sat at home, hoping that his country’s coach would recall him and offer him a starting spot.
He studied for one year in France and one year in the United States. Mathis was a member of Italian youth teams and the senior national team. Many of his teammates are from his native Colombia.
He became a soccer player in London. Mathis has played for the Italian team Fiorentina for four years, before being bought by SC Lanzerote. In 2000, he went to the United States and played for United States Soccer League (USSL) club,
FC Gold Pride, from 2001 to 2003. In 2005, he was signed by Italian soccer team Fiorentina. Mathis retired from soccer at the end of 2013, when she moved to Switzerland.
